Watermark Stone Wealth
In March of 2020 two successful money management teams merged to form Watermark Stone Wealth, an even stronger team of investing, planning and insurance professionals.
Doug Stone, Chuck Magyar, David Lyon, and Stewart Istvan, have now created a broader team of like-minded professionals with complementary skills and experience, so that jointly we could deliver high levels of service and professionalism to a wide range of clients.
We provide flexible solutions that allow clients to grow and evolve with us as their circumstances change, so that optimal products and strategies are available at each stage of an investor’s financial journey. We take great pleasure in helping clients reach their goals.
Doug has accumulated more than twenty-five years of experience helping both individual and corporate clients manage their investments and achieve their financial goals.
In addition to being licensed as an Investment Advisor and Life Insurance Agent, Doug has been active as a Portfolio Manager for more than 20 years. Having also earned some of the most highly regarded credentials in both the financial planning and investment fields, Doug offers clients a unique and powerful combination of comprehensive financial planning coupled with professional investment management.
Over the years Doug has attracted like-minded, skilled professionals to his team. He is pleased to have contributed to the forming of Watermark Stone Wealth. This team delivers high quality, professional service and expertise to meet client needs in an objective, unbiased manner.
Doug’s commitment to industry professionalism and financial literacy has been demonstrated over the years. Doug was one of the original editorial board members of the Canadian Journal of Financial Planning, he lectured on financial planning with courses at a community college, and he also has supervised and mentored numerous new Portfolio Managers that have joined the firm.
When Doug’s head is not buried in investment literature or attending financial conferences, he enjoys travel, exploring nature, reading and spending time with his family.
Chuck started his 25+ year career in wealth management by trading his own money on both the Toronto and Montreal exchanges. It was there that he gained comprehensive knowledge of the markets through researching, designing, and implementing his own trading systems, this experience providing him with unique perspectives he weaves into creating well-rounded client portfolios.
That hands-on knowledge has helped Chuck build a successful career as a Portfolio Manager, a title earned by a select group of professionals across Canada who are uniquely licensed to make daily investment decisions for clients.
Chuck shares responsibility for many investment management aspects at Watermark Stone Wealth, including co-managing the Managed Account Platform with Doug Stone.
Happiest researching market movements and identifying new investments to create more depth in client portfolios, you’ll often find Chuck in front of a spreadsheet, or with his nose deep in a book on investing.
Chuck is kept busy at home by his wife, Charlotte, and their two children. An active member of the Midweek Cycling Club, Chuck participates in races, and volunteers to help organize and run club events.
David is an integral member of the financial planning team at Watermark Stone Wealth, and is currently involved with administering our Advisory Account Platform. Before partnering with his colleagues at Watermark Stone Wealth, he held various positions at RBC. With more than 25 years in the industry, David has worn many hats as he moved up the ranks, gaining a comprehensive command of the financial services marketplace.
David can regularly be found at investment conferences, gaining valuable insights into the markets, so that he can appropriately direct clients’ money into the right places at the right times. David’s favourite role is that of financial planner; he devotes countless hours crunching numbers to help his clients stay on track to achieve their goals.
David is passionate about lifelong learning. He recently obtained his QUALIFIED ASSOCIATE FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (QAFP) certification which demonstrates a financial planner’s competence and commitment to the highest ethical standards of responsibility. In addition, he is also pursuing two advanced certifications: the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER (CFP®) and the Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) designations.
At home, David and his wife, Ursula, love chasing after their two children. David enjoys Masters swimming, platform tennis, golf, and skiing. He delights in passing his love of sports onto his kids.
Stewart leads marketing and communications at Watermark Stone Wealth, spending most of his working day growing relationships with current and potential clients.
After a fulfilling career in the pharmaceutical industry, Stewart jumped ship to the financial industry in May 2005. That is when he became a founding partner of Watermark Wealth Management, along with Chuck Magyar and David Lyon. Over the next 15 years the three partners built a successful financial advisory practice, culminating with the recent creation of Watermark Stone Wealth.
The newly expanded team shares many values and beliefs, including the importance of trustworthiness and the paramount reputation of always placing the clients’ interests first.
A gifted communicator, Stewart’s life goal is to take the jargon out of the financial industry. He believes that every wealth concept can be communicated clearly, without technical language. He is a warm, personable, caring, and understanding member of the team.
Stewart’s three adult children keep him in check outside of the office. In his spare time, he enjoys cycling, golf, cooking and trying to perfect his art of sour-dough bread making.
When Robert decided to begin a new career in the financial services field, he brought with him his strong analytical skills and a client-focused approach developed during his tenure in a leadership role with a major Canadian retail corporation.
Robert joined the team in 2006, and quickly became an integral member. Robert often works with younger clients and those in the accumulation phase of their financial life-cycle, and has helped to develop strategies that focus on providing benefits to these clients.
Robert enjoys working closely with clients to help develop and implement their wealth management strategies. In keeping with his belief in the importance of financial planning, Robert earned his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER (CFP®) designation in 2009.
Clients enjoy working with Robert, and benefit from his combination of in-depth knowledge and sincere desire to help produce successful financial results.
Robert is looking forward to adding his skill set to the new expanded team at Watermark Stone Wealth, and continuing to deliver positive results to the clients with whom he has built positive relations.
Outside of the office, Bob enjoys playing recreational hockey, attending sporting events and spending time with close friends (especially if a BBQ dinner is involved). Bob is also quite handy and can keep busy with many DIY projects at home.
Leigh Ann Sullivan
Leigh Ann joined the team in 2007, and over the ensuing years has become a highly valued member, frequently garnering positive feedback from clients, colleagues, and head office staff.
Leigh Ann’s strong administrative skills and organizational abilities have made her a “go to” person for clients. She is responsible for maintaining superior client service and coordination of many office admin and marketing activities, and looks after much of the general office operations.
Leigh Ann’s commitment to providing excellent service is shown by her having earned her Associate Investment Advisor license, which allows her to provide a higher level of support when interacting directly with clients.
Before joining the team, Leigh Ann gained valuable experience as a tax preparer, and continues to enjoy helping to provide support to the team’s financial planners on tax-related issues, as well as taking a leading role in the administration of the many tax queries received from clients at tax time.
Leigh Ann’s strong skills, positive attitude, team approach, and commitment to excellence will continue to make her a key member of Watermark Stone Wealth.
Leigh Ann has two young daughters that keep her on her toes. When she can sneak away for some “me” time, Leigh Ann is a passionate reader.
Robin is the most recent addition to the iA Private Wealth organization and is excited to bring her many years of sales and office administration support to the team. Robin started her career in the accounting software sales industry, where she assisted accountants/reseller channel in the sales and implementation of accounting software. Most recently she supported small businesses with administration, sales, and marketing support, to ensure best practices were achieved within the organizations.
We are excited Robin will be assisting iA Private Wealth with administration, client onboarding and office support to ensure our clients continue to receive the highest level of service possible.
Robin is a graduate of the University of Guelph and currently resides in Oakville, Ontario with her husband, son, and adorable dog. She enjoys running, golfing, skiing, and fishing, and Robin always has a good book or two on the go.
Amanda became a member of the team in 2017, bringing with her several years of valuable experience in the financial services industry, including administrative support in an Investment Counsel firm providing both retail and institutional services.
Amanda’s detailed knowledge and experience with the recently adopted client management and trading systems proved invaluable during a difficult transition period. Amanda continues to take a leading role in working with document completion and other key administrative tasks.
Demonstrating a desire to continually learn and improve, Amanda has recently begun to focus on providing increased administrative support to the life and disability insurance segment of the business.
Amanda enjoys dealing directly with both head office and clients, and has quickly become a dependable and valuable source of support for the Investment Advisors and Portfolio Managers at Watermark Stone Wealth.
Outside the office, Amanda enjoys watching movies, party planning and spending time with family at the cottage.
Teresa provides the team with office management and administrative skills gained during her 17 years with a major Canadian bank and also assists with bookkeeping and accounting services, filling a vital role in the running of any small business.
Well known for her attention to detail, Teresa shares responsibility for many quality control aspects of the business, ensuring that back office functions are executed efficiently and accurately. Quality control includes reviewing all trades, as well as auditing all fees and commissions charged to client accounts.
Teresa will continue to provide all of these essential services in the expanded Watermark Stone Wealth office.
Outside the office, Teresa enjoys reading, spending time with her adult children (especially travelling on family vacations) and taking the occasional dance class.
